Redstone 2002 Color! Engagement Calendar
Published in Calendar by Chronicle Books (August, 2001)
Author: Chronicle Books
Average review score:

Brilliant Colour
The Redstone calendar is a perfect match for me not only because it is cleverly designed with an inside pocket and lots of note-paper, but it also provides enough space for each days' plan. Most importantly though, it is very aesthetically pleasing- with great visuals depicting the importance of colour in our world.

It's been great so far...
I've had two of these calendars so far, and each one has been a wonderful collectino of images and words. That, and I loved it's structure as well, with a handy, big spiral, and pocketed envelopes. Sadly, last year I didn't get one, and I bet that's one reason 2001 sucked for me. HA!
Get it.
Yeah.

the best calendar in the universe
The Redstone Engagement calendars feature a theme that is expressed through pictures, cartoons, and writings, one for every week in the year and a few informational essays just to read. Next year's theme is color; this year's is (of course) odysseys; last year's was maps. The illustrations are wonderful and come from a wide variety of contemporary and even ancient sources. Physically, the calendar has many virtues. It has big blocks to record appointments and reminders; pockets, for storing memos and lists; blank pages in several colors for notes to yourself (or to tear out and leave for others); and dates and labels that are printed in four languages (just in case). It is spiral-bound, so you can carry it around open to the week of your choice, and it unfailingly attracts admiring (and envious) comments whenever it is taken out of bag or briefcase. How anyone can get through the year without a Redstone Diary is beyond me.

In a Class by Itself
Redstone does it again, thank heaven! In 2000 the Redstone Diary featured Curiosities of Science, and they were curious indeed. In 1999 it was the Redstone Diary of the Millennium, with Messages to a Future, of every bizarre and amusing sort. This year it's Odysseys and Other Journeys, and I cannot wait to set sail! Bravo, Julian Rothenstein! Every year brings another mind-expanding and eye-popping selection of illustrations in a format that is not only fun to use on a daily basis, but becomes impossible to throw away at the end of the year. The Redstone is in a class by itself, a classic that gets envious looks when I flip mine open on a conference table. I'm an artist and video director and I find that the Redstone inspires creativity to the point where I write, and sometimes draw, all over it, sometimes on the pictures themselves. Quick, before they run out!

Conway,New Hampshire, 1765-1997
This is a awesume book ! It takes a factual book that was written by a now deceased author and starts where she left off and brings it up to date on the history of all the villages surrounding Conway. Excellent pictures of many landmarks and attire of the period. This would be a great book for a history buff or someone wanting to learn more about the area of Conway, New Hampshire. Janet Hounsell did a excellent job on a huge project like this one.

Noted for his biting commentary his portrayal of popular Mexicaan culture in the form of a skeleton or calavera has influenced maany artists including Rivera, Orozco and a new generation of artists. An excellent source book for anyone interested in the ommnipresent calavera in Mexican art.

A wonderful Journal!
I don't see how a journal could get any better! This was the first journal I have bought and written in and I must say, it's very enjoyable. The cover is very beautiful, with a picture of Ganesh from a matchbox on the front and the back. Inside there are 128 pages that are lined. This journal is perfect for gel pens! So if you want to write beautiful thoughts, why not have a beautiful cover too?

A Wonderful Companion
This was the 2nd jounal I have ever bought, right after the Redstone Ganesh journal. THey complement each other very well, so if you get one, you will want to get the other. Anyway, the cover is beautiful with the face of a moon and stars in the night sky. The journal has spanish on it, and you can clearly read "El Fexix" and "Cerillo Extra." It's very durable, has 128 pages and is made for gel pens. I only wished i had gotten this journal sooner. If you want a journal, get this one!

When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain
Published in Paperback by Dansing Heart (01 January, 2000)
Author: P.G. Redstone
Average review score:

A great romance and adventure novel.
This is a very good novel of romance and human discovery complete with > action and adventure! From the time the characters set off to change the world, the author had me hooked. I couldn't wait to find out want was going to happen next.

As with so many of us, Katie (the main character) is a little unsure of who she is and what her purpose is. She is carrying on the work of her late mother but it is not as satisfying as it should be. By setting off on a great adventure to the Congo, she is able to learn who she is and to fulfill her destiny. She renews old friendships (with Sagan) and makes new ones (BJ) during her travels. These relationships help bring her life into focus and she is able to use them when the world around her begins to fall apart. As with so many of us, Katie finds her true self in the most trying of times. It is the same for BJ as circumstances help focus his energies on the course his life must take.

The action sequences were well written. I could feel the tension as gunfire rang out and Katie, Sagan and BJ battled to reach their destination, the American Embassy. I could almost hear the rockets explode along their journey and feel and smell the smoke as they dodged through alleyways and streets attempting to reach safety.

P.G. Redstone has done a wonderful job of creating characters you get to know and relate to. Their insecurities, their hopes and dreams are there for us to share. We struggle with them as they learn about the world we live in, but most importantly, they learn about themselves. All three are changed in a way they could not have foreseen.

This is a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance, action or adventure stories.

Excellent
What a wonderful "get-away" - to get lost in this well written, thought-provoking novel. It's a must-read for anyone who wishes to "visit" other worlds and other ideas....

When The Moon Comes Over the Mountain
This book combines an interesting and unpredictable love story with relevant social issues that have both current and future impact on our lives. The main characters in the book are tested as they struggle to support a World Federation. I usually read only non-fiction, but found satisfaction in this fictional account that raises real-life questions about the world power structure. While these days, "world peace" seems like nothing more than a rehearsed response by a beauty pagent contestant, author P.G. Redstone breaks down the task in bits of personal, individual responsibility and commitiment.

I gave this book "5 stars" because it took me places that I've never been before, both geographically and philosophically.

This book would be an excellent choice to read if you are a member of a book club. The topics for discussion that it presents are many. It offers no simple solutions to individual or global enlightenment, but provides the tools needed to continue the journey.

D.I.Y. Beauty
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2001)
Authors: Susan Redstone, Alloy Publishers, and Karen W. Bressler

Good book to have fun with the girls with...
This book includes LOTS of recipes and mixes to DIY beauty. It's great to use when you have a friend (most likely a girl) over and you're bored.

Some of the tips are odd, but in fact, fun. And no need to worry whether or not they're safe for your face. Beauty experts have commented on almost every (if not every) single tip, and explained whether it was safe to use on your face or not, and even gives an explanation as to why you should or shouldn't do it. And it doesn't have just "spa" like tips, but tips on everyday things like brushing your teeth or washing your face. This list goes on from hair to zits!

Not a must-have, but definitely a book to consider. If you're having an up-and-coming spa night with girls soon or just want to relax and catch up on your beautiness, it's a pretty handy and fun book...

Great book on DIY beauty
This is a great book on diy beauty; people tell their recipes on making diy treatments and then experts talk if they actually work or not. Its also filled with comments from celebs, tips from make up artists, and it gives some fun history facts on beauty.

This really had good advice in it!
I was shocked when I read this book. I am 14 years old and just getting into the whole zit, make-up, and hair thing that all female teenagers live with. This book wrote out beauty tips that people just like us sent in. Then they had a professional tell us if that idea would work or not. I thought that was a really good idea for a beauty book. It clears up the myths of beauty secrets. It tells you what works, what doesn't work, make-up advice, hair advice, how to deal with zits, etc. You have to get this book!

Passion to Win
Published in Digital by Simon & Schuster ()
Authors: Sumner Redstone and Peter Knobler
Average review score:

A Blockbuster title...with no late fees
This is a lightweight tome about an unusual man.

Like him or loathe him, Sumner Redstone is a character and in this book what you read is about Sumner Redstone, a man of steel.

There is much to be admired about Mr. Redstone but not his writing skills. This unabashed self-promoting autobiography is not a bad read but it really does not get to the essence of the man and his business dealings.

One is reminded of Shakespeare's withering description "but Caesar is an honourable man" which served to cast doubt on the character of Caesar. I am not saying that there is anything bad with Sumner Redstone but the reader is left with the impression of our hero marching into battle at the head of a small, timid, lacking in confidence army. Granted he is a survivor and granted that he has got good business acumen but where, as they say, is the beef?

This is a story of Sumner first and foremost, a larger than life character while the other figures he interacts with are merely shadows in comparison.

Lest anyone get me wrong I have the utmost respect for this gentleman and believe that you do not get to run one of the biggest media corporations in the world by mere accident. But this book is not a fitting testament to the man. The world does not need the soft focus version of Sumner Redstone. What we do need is a no holds barred, warts and all unauthorised biography of the Viacom titan.

This is not the greates business book in the world. You can tell that by the fact that Blockbuster stores were required to sell it alongside their movie rentals before ultimately was taken from the shelves. Unlike a lot of the things you get from Blockbuster there are no late fees attached to this book. Says it all really.

amazing look at the big media business
sumner redstone in his book not only inspires you with his story but also at the same time gives you a peek into the wheelings and dealings that go on in the media business.. makes u feel part of the game for a while and inspires you to achieve something of your own.. along the way he provides advice on the nuances of striking deals, a skill he obviously he is a master of..
the only thing that really put me off was his constant justification of the many lawsuits that he has filed.. mind you, it not the lawsuits per se which seemed negative.. but his constant need to justify each occassion where he sued someone..
otherwise, a great read.

From His Perspective
Several other reviewers seem to have attached little (if any) importance to the fact that the information Redstone provides (especially the opinions) are from his perspective. They challenge the accuracy of his comments about various negotiations, lawsuits, personnel decisions, etc. No doubt he employs selective memory. No doubt he frequently bends the truth to suit what are often his self-serving purposes. No doubt in several instances he is flat-out wrong. So what? I rate this book so highly because it provides access to Redstone which would otherwise be denied, at least to me. No one can question the nature and extent of his achievements in business. No one can deny that he is among the most controversial of media empire CEOs. The person he himself describes is not someone I would wish to be closely associated with. I do not plan to invite him over for Sunday dinner (although he may well be delightful company in that situation) and I have not included him on my holiday greeting card mailing list. Again, so what? In his own words, he shares with me and other readers his "take" on his life and career thus far. We have his version of volatile relationships with others such as Barry Diller who also bears little resemblance to Mr. Rogers. Thank you, Mr. Redstone, for explaining why you think you have a passion to win; also, what you think the impact of that passion has had in your life.
